The 2009 ACM Award winner for Nightclub Of The Year, Joe's Bar on Weed Street has shown no signs of slowing down in 2010 as they continue to heat things up in the Windy City. So far they have bought in the likes of Phil Vassar and Josh Turner and tonight was no exception as we were treated to a very special acoustic evening with Jack Ingram. Ed Warm and his crew at Joe's continues to prove why they are a major stop on the road for many of country music's finest artists. Continue to keep an eye on the schedule as they continue to add more shows to their calendar atwww.joesbar.com Carter's Chord - Many of the men in the venue tonight were there so they can treat their dates to an evening of Jack. But they were the one's that got the treat as Carter's Chord took the stage as the opening act for the night. As the three beautiful and very talented ladies took the stage they were met with whistling and hollering of every man in the place. As the music began and the girls opened with "Cuts Deep," it was everyone who had a ticket tonight that was truly lucky to be there. When the three voices come together the harmonies between them are angelic to say the least and with their command of the audience it is not very hard to see why they caught the attention of Toby Keith and was signed to his label Show Dog Nashville. The sisters were bought up on country music as their parents were member of Waylon Jennings road band. As the opening song came to an end, middle sister Emily stepped up and said, "we are Carter's Chord and we are glad to be playing here in Chicago. I am Emily, next to me is our big sister Becky and on the keys is the baby sister, Joanna. Let's light one up and pass it around," she said as they rolled back into the music with "Pass It Around." Becky took over on the keys as she began to belt out some Tracy Chapman, "Give me One Reason," as the crowd sang along with the classic. Becky took over and said, "Wasn't that great and isn't she beautiful guys," referring to Joanna. All the guys hooted. But then Becky gave them the bad news, "it's almost Valentine's Day and you can celebrate it by stopping by our merchandise and purchase something from her husband." With that being said and the dreams of many smashed, they drove back into the music with "Goodbye Song." They continued to roll through their set with the up-tempo "Boys Like You (Give Love A Bad Name)" from their debut album and into a cover of Waylon Jennings "I'm A Ramblin' Man," which they stated prior to playing it "Y'all should know this one," and they were right as people could be seen singing along with them. Emily stated, "what kind of girl band would we be without a break up song? We came up with this one after being on the road with Toby Keith and Montgomery Gentry." They played a song about saying goodbye to all the bad boys in their lives, such as Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Captain Morgan and Jose Cuervo. After getting a rise from everyone by asking if they were for Jack Ingram, they played out the rest of their set with a cover of "Heartache Tonight" and another cut from their album called "Different Breed." They had already won over the crowd and did their job by getting everyone warmed up for Jack, but if there wasn't anyone that was ready they made sure of that before leaving the stage for the night. Becky said, "we have one more for you before we hand the stage over to Jack. Lets end this on a fun note." And that is what they did as they got everyone to sing along to Bob Dylan's, "Everybody Must Get Stoned." If these lovely ladies head to your town, you need to check it off on your calendar and go see them. You won't be disappointed. Set List Jack Ingram - The stage was set and you knew that you were in for a special intimate evening. Two couches lined the back of the stage covered with throw pillows. Tables with candles, one stool and a microphone set up the atmosphere for what we were about to witness. It's always fun to go and see an artist perform but to see it from the raw storytellers side give it something more than a full band can ever do. As 9:00pm approached Jack Ingram strolled down the stairs to the stage and was met with a huge ovation. As he took his place on the stool, jack looked out over the crowd. "What's up?" he said. "How about Carter's Chord?" the audience cheered. "I can't remember which one is who, so I just call them hot," stated Jack as he got a chuckle from the packed house. "Tonight is a special night, it is an acoustic show," he continued, "it requires crowd participation. The kind of participation where you shut the ---- up," he laughed as did the audience. "When I first started playing shows I had this idea that people needed to hear what I was playing, so I would tell them to shut the ---- up. After a couple of shows I realized that less and less people were coming to the show until it was just me. I got what I wanted, I guess. So tonight you can do whatever you want, you paid for your ticket so if you want to hear the show and someone is disturbing you, by all means tell them to shut the ---- up." It got everyone to giggle and ready for the great show that they were about to be treated to. The Texas rocker opened the evening with, "When It Don't Come Easy" and "Hey You." "Everyone alright so far?" asked Jack. "Thanks for coming out tonight", as he took for his jacket he asked some lady in the front row, "Did you just say take more off?" Everyone laughed as he told her that she had just lost all credibility. He then said, "I wrote this next one for my dad who walked out on us. I had a lot of questions and anger, so I wrote this song." He strummed his guitar and rolled into "Biloxi." "After hearing that song, my good friend Radney Foster wrote this and bought it to me and it just fit. If you listen to US99 here in Chicago you have heard it," said Ingram. "Notice how easy I slid that plug in," he laughed. The crowd sang along with him to "Measure Of A Man." While talking about traveling through Texas, Friday night football games, oil rigs, cows and money, I rolled all those things into this next song when I wrote it, "Great Divide." "I never wanted to be one of those singers that wrote songs about their kids, but the first time my wife left me at home for the night with our daughter, Ava Adele, I couldn't help but to be inspired by my little girl and wrote a song about her," told Jack. He continued to tell the story of the song along with the baby rocker and how it would keep her sleeping. It also had 3 buttons and that the 3rd level was to dangerous and his wife said not to use it. At the end his daughter is now 7, hear neck is fine and he finished writing the song. We all laughed with him as he played the sweet song that he wrote for his daughter, "Ava Adele." The full house cheered, thank you" said Jack. "I found out after Ava was born why my dad spent all his time in the garage," again cracking up the audience. "I have one more song that I wrote about my second kid. I have 3 kids so they have to share," says Ingram and plays, "Make A Wish (Coming Home Again)." "After getting my first number one a couple of years ago, I have charted several time with songs that have been written by other people. I wanted to release something to radio that I wrote. So we released "Seeing Stars" and it went to 54 on the charts which was higher than anything else I ever wrote. This was recorded as a duet with Patty Griffin, so you'll have to pretend you hear her when I sing her parts," added Jack. As he played the final notes of "Seeing Stars," Ingram asked, "Would you like to hear a new song?" Everyone cheered. "I want to see if you like it and if I forget the words you won't know any better. I wrote this one about my first love, don't tell my wife," joked Ingram. This one is called "Over You." Jack continued though his set for the evening with "Picture On My Wall" and "Mustang Burn." "This was my first number one," said Jack. "It was the first time that I had ever heard one of my songs played on the Country Top 40. We listened each week as it climbed higher and higher on the charts. One week they got all the way to #2 and it wasn't me, so I thought it was a good ride while it lasted. I couldn't believe it when they announced my name and it was #1. So wherever you are, my name is jack Ingram and I play country music." After getting the crowd totally amped up with "Wherever You Are," he kept it rolling with a crowd favorite, "Barbie Doll" that had the sold out venue going crazy. "So, what is it like 13 degrees outside or something," asked Ingram. The crowd roared. "It's not windy. For a city whose nickname is the Windy City, you're not impressing me," as he joked with the crowd. "Joe's Bar is the best place in the country for a show like this and that's why I love playing here," added Ingram before playing his hit that became a summertime anthem, "Barefoot And Crazy." Jack stopped in the middle of the song. "I was doing a show in Kansas when this very beautiful, young typical country girl noticed me. She came over and asked me if I was going to sing that Cool Whip kiss song. I didn't know what a Cool Whip kiss was, but it sounded good and though to myself, I'd like one of those. I guess she could see by the look on my face that I had no idea what she was talking about. She said that song about Barefoot and Crazy. I was like, oh, yes I am playing that, but still couldn't figure where in the song she was talking about. Then I figured it out instead of cool wet kiss she thought it was Cool Whip kiss. So every time you hear the song on US99 from now on, I want you to sing Cool Whip kiss," Jack laughed as he continue to finish the song with the new lyrics, "Cool Whip kiss." Jack went on to wrap up his set for the evening. "When you get cut off in traffic or come home to a spouse in a bad mood after a hard day at work, this is the cure all song." Everyone jumped to their feet and screamed along while singing "Love You" with Ingram. At the end jack gave the story about he doesn't do encores because he just wants to keep his fans happy and play all of the hits and not hold anything back. But if he did do an encore this is what would happen, as he tells the story about leaving the stage, going up the stairs and hearing the cheers of Jack, Jack, Jack. But being exhausted from giving 100% and leaving it all on the stage he decides to come back and give us one more. On the way to the stage he would fall down the stairs because he was so tired, but would pick himself back up and push on to give the fans what they wanted. "So here I am, back on the stage to play for you', said Ingram. He added, "I love coming to Joe's and I love playing for you all," and plays on with Goodnight" to complete his set for the evening. "Joe's on Weed…Chicago, IL, God Bless you all," as Ingram left the stage and headed up the stairs. Jack came back down to his merchandise table the meet the fans and sign t-shirts and cd's for everyone that stuck around. He is a fan of his fans. Over the last year and a half we have had the pleasure to see jack perform many times, this was by far, the best Jack Ingram show I have ever seen. Be sure that you see him when he comes to your town. It may not be an intimate acoustic show, but Ingram will be sure to entertain and it will be well worth the price of your ticket. Set List |
