In 2015, the local songwriting scene of Stillwater, OK brought together four like-minded individuals from completely different background who wanted nothing more than to play music. Read Southall became the talk of Oklahoma after the release of his acoustic album “Six String Sorrow” in 2015 that accumulated 8 million streams in just 3 years. In 2016, Read Southall decided that a group effort was the way to proceed with his fellow band mates and the Read Southall Band officially came to light. They released “Borrowed Time” in the spring of 2017 which featured singles like “Don’t Tell Me” and “Why”, which made it inside the Top 10 on several streaming charts.

The Read Southall Band began to tour full time in 2018, leading to the release of “Live at Tower Theatre” in December.

2019 is set to be a huge year for the Oklahoma rock ’n' roll quartet as they tour all over the USA with several acts like Whiskey Myers and Koe Wetzel.

There's an old adage in the music business—hurry up and wait. It’s as old as time itself and still rings true today. All too often, we’re stuck in a no man’s land where the present is almost non-existent. You look at the past, the “good old days,” with rose-colored glasses. The future is presented as when everything will be figured out and make sense—there’s an unparalleled optimism towards the future. Days drag on, but the years fly by.

With their highly anticipated sophomore album, Homeland Insecurity, Texas’ Flatland Cavalry wants to stop and smell the roses. Bandleader and chief lyricist Cleto Cordero is fine with examining and the present. There’s an appreciation for all the sharp detail and high-spirited emotions of today.

For the past 20 years, Jason Boland & the Stragglers have dazzled audiences all over as one of the best ambassadors of the Red Dirt and Texas country movement. Millions of fans cheering him on, over 500,000 records sold independently and 10 albums later, Boland is a career musician whose legacy continues to grow by the day. Add to that the legions of musicians who are influenced by Boland, his impact on the scene is undeniable.

But, just like so many other musicians, Boland was initially paralyzed by the pandemic. At the onset of the March 2020 lockdown, Boland was stuck at home like so many others, which was the longest period of his storied career without performing live.

So what did he do? Create.

Sitting at home with his wife during those early days, whenever the two would talk about things returning to normal, Boland would start singing Steve Winwood’s “Back in High Life Again.” Soon enough, he grabbed a ukulele, started playing chords and thus, his own version born.

Proudly independent and unapologetically Southern, country duo Muscadine Bloodline find their true voice on a new album, Dispatch to 16th Ave. Charlie Muncaster and Gary Stanton grew up in Mobile, Alabama, but didn’t cross paths until they each started to pursue their musical dreams. In 2012, they forged a friendship when Stanton opened a show for Muncaster’s band at Soul Kitchen in Mobile. Since naming themselves Muscadine Bloodline in 2015, they have sold out shows across the South, opened concerts for hundreds of artists, and earned a standing ovation at their Grand Ole Opry debut in 2018. Their Southern roots carry over to their band name as well: Muscadine grapes grow in the South while Bloodline represents their heritage.

My rearview don’t hold grudges or regrets,” Josh Abbott Band croons on “The Highway Kind,” the reflective title track off their sixth studio album. The follow-up to 2017’s string and horn-infused Until My Voice Goes Out, the uplifting 10-track project finds lead singer Josh Abbott embracing life as a loving husband and doting father of two after 12 years as a road warrior and frontman of his country band.

Recorded at Sonic Ranch in El Paso, The Highway Kind saw the Texas act team up with producer Marshall Altman (Marc Broussard, Frankie Ballard, Aaron Watson) for what Abbott dubs “the first real, true band album experience” that the seven-piece has recorded. The band hunkered down at the famed Texas studio for two weeks in mid-2019 where their musicianship evolved as they worked closely with Altman.

RCA Nashville breakthrough recording artist Niko Moon kicked off 2021 by topping multiple charts with his Platinum-selling debut single “GOOD TIME.” With more than 250 million on-demand streams, “GOOD TIME” helped catapult Moon to No. 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart and has been lauded as “a bottle-passin' campfire daydream” (Tennessean), solidifying the genre-defying entertainer’s reputation as “One of the most genuine and creative artists in country music right now” (THINK Country Music). Born in Tyler, TX, Moon relocated to Douglasville, GA at age 10, equidistance from hip-hop hub Atlanta and country breeding ground Newnan, GA, inspiring his artful persona: a mix of hooky melodies, shrewd wordplay and edgy, electronic beats. With five songwriting No. 1 hits (Zac Brown Band’s “Loving You Easy,” “Homegrown,” “Beautiful Drug,” “Keep Me In Mind,” and “Heavy Is The Head”) plus co-pen credits on singles by Dierks Bentley and Ashley Monroe, among others, Moon continues to turn heads and has been named an artist to watch by CMT, Amazon Music, MusicRow, NY Country Swag, and more. He is currently self-producing his debut full-length project alongside longtime collaborator and friend Joshua Murty.

Hailey Whitters was closing in on her first decade in Nashville, that mythologized milestone when artists are supposed to finally start reaping the fruits of their labor. But despite 10 years of hard work, the singer-songwriter still hadn't had her breakout moment and, fed up with pushing the boulder uphill, she took a step back to reassess.

"I hit my 'fuck it' point, says Hailey. I felt like I was watering myself down to try and fit in with what this town was doing, and I was looking for Nashville to define my happiness. When I quit doing that I was able to dig into why I am on this journey in the first place: to create music that I love on my own terms. And that's when I wrote 'Ten Year Town.'"

At that moment, the native of Shueyville, Iowa matured into the artist she was supposed to be: a probing, fearless songwriter who is more concerned with the busted and broken way things arethan the pretty and polished way things are painted to be.

"Everything is so glossy and so perfect in society," she says, "especially for women, who are getting fillers and changing our face shape. Every single thing is so tweaked to perfection that it's boring. I'm craving something that is raw, real and imperfect."

She addresses all of that in "Ten Year Town, the song that at long last identified Hailey as one of Nashville's elite songwriters and artists. Written with Grammy nominee Brandy Clark, the ballad takes a stark look at what happens when life doesn't work out as planned and how rejection can ultimately lead to empowerment. "I didn't come this far, to only go this far," sings Hailey.

While it's a song of frustration laid bare, Hailey isn't bitter or jaded. Rather, she's encouraged and inspired — "This next song could turn it all around" goes the final verse of "Ten Year Town" — looking ahead to the release of her new album The Dream, a project that she's splitting up into two acts. The first half, titled "The Days," looks at where she came from, while the second part, also called "The Dream," explores where she's going.

Twenty years and some 4,000 shows into his career, the name Wade Bowen has become synonymouswith Texas country music – and for good reason. An artistic descendant of American icons like Guy Clark, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Robert Earl Keen and more, Bowen is another link in a Texan chain of roots-rock poets stretching back more than 50 years – but his ambition never ended at the state line. “I will carry that flag proudly,” Bowen says of his Red-Dirt distinction. “But I’ve always said I’m not a ‘Texas artist,’ I’m an artist from Texas, and I think there’s a difference.” Seen as one of the genre’s finest and most authentic modern voices, Bowen’s approach stays rooted in tradition, but also stands on the creative cutting edge. His focus remains on writing unique songs with a literary quality, and shifting his sonic territory to match his life. Wielding a knack for direct, poetic songwriting that never panders, Bowen matches his gravel-road growl to an organic sound spanning the whole of Texas, tapping both country and rock influences. A dozen albums have shown his sonic diversity – including six studio sets, two live collections, a gospel album and an ongoing series of buddy-country hits with fellow Texan, Randy Rogers. Along the way, he’s scored hits and accolades based on quality, not quantity, and continues to perform around 200 nationwide shows each year – including multiple appearances on the venerated Grand Ole Opry.

Cliches make Jameson Rodgers cringe.

But here goes.

“This is a dream come true,” he gushes of his debut album Bet You’re From a Small Town, a gritty, country music masterpiece that most certainly will have the soft-spoken yet edgy country traditionalist landing in superstar territory. “I can remember a time, not so long ago, when none of this was going on and it seemed like it would never happen. I mean, things like this don’t happen to guys like me. ”He speaks in somewhat hushed tones, as if speaking too loudly about all that he has already achieved might make it somehow all go away. But with the success of his Platinum-certified, No. 1 debut hit “Some Girls” and his follow-up Top 10 smash “Cold Beer Calling My Name,” Rodgers is in fact cementing his place amongst the future legends of the genre, finding that truth and toughness mixed in with a whole bunch of authenticity can form a career for even the most skeptical of artists. “I’m a simple dude that likes simple things, and that’s about it,” the 33-year-old with the long stare and the slight smilesays with a slight shrug of his shoulders. “I like writing songs and playing shows and making people feel something through my music. That’s about it. That’s who I am.

He teamed up with award-winning producer Dann Huff for his brand-new single “Love Is Real” (Evans, Jordan Reynolds, Parker Welling) and, for the first time in his U.S. career, set aside his signature loop pedal to collaborate with a band of musicians. It builds from the foundation Evans created with his debut album Things That We Drink To, which arrived Top 10 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and features his Gold-certified No. 1 debut single “Kiss Somebody.” Named one of Country Radio Seminar’s New Faces of Country Music in 2020, Evans is among the genre’s most promising stars. He has been named a People “One To Watch,” a MusicRow “Next Big Thing” and to Bobby Bones’ “Class of 2018,” with additional recognition from CMT, SiriusXM, Pandora, Rolling Stone, Billboard, The Tennessean and more. Already established as a global country force, the entertainer has teamed up with Apple Music to showcase performers from all over the world on Country Wide Radio with Morgan Evans. He has toured with artists including Taylor Swift, Dan + Shay, Cole Swindell, Old Dominion and Rascal Flatts in addition to sharing his own headlining show with sold-out audiences spanning eight countries across three continents.

A native of small-town Kentucky, that drive to make the world a little better comes naturally to Shane – and so does his high-energy sound. Raised in the Baptist church, some of his earliest (and fondest) memories come from singing hymns each week beside his Gospel-loving mother. She was the rock of the family, providing Shane with the drive and compassionate compass he now follows in his own music. But when they got home, it was his dad’s boombox that stole Shane’s attention, with the sound of classic rock and country helping pass the time.

Early touchstones like Dwight Yoakam, Steve Earle and John Fogerty joined Shane’s Gospel roots to form the bedrock of his taste – along with R&B classics like The Temptations and modern superstars like Eminem. And after a fateful Baptist revival came through town, he joined a band as a front man full of wild-eyed charisma. Soon they were rocking rowdy beer joints that suited his roughneck style, and at the same time, Shane began writing songs that were almost visual in their depth. But like so many others, he flew mostly under the radar … until “My Boy” first emerged.

Initially capturing attention with a viral social media moment, that has since become his signature smash, the song is currently Top 5 at country radio, putting Shane’s heart and soul on full display. Co-written with Russell Sutton, Lee Starr and Nick Columbia, it was born from tenderness and truth about the bond Shane shares with his stepson. Like his own dad predicted, that connection wasn’t part of Shane’s plan, but it delivered him right where he needed to be. And the song has done the same.
